WHO WE ARE

In today’s world there are many programs dealing with drugs. They categorize the substances, give lists of harmful effects and then tell you to never touch them. Their intention is a good one. However, the results are not often significant.

Norm and Fred realize that young people are curious. Many are also unaware that one bad choice can lead to many others. To counteract this, presenter Boyd Merrill with the help of his son Jason, devised the presentation Norm And Fred - Think About Drugs. The play documents four characters: a farm boy, a cop, a drug pusher and a university student. Through their experiences we are shown what we call the world of drugs. We feel it important to relate not only the immediate physical dangers of drug abuse but also the environment one enters with the decision to abuse substances. Kids are shown the reality of living in a drug inhabited world and how life changes. Friends, family and values take on a whole different view.

The difference between this show and others is that it does not approach kids as though they are not capable of making the right decisions. Instead it empowers youth. It teaches that we all have the ability to make informed choices from the start.

And it works! To date we have spoken to 150,000 youth within Atlantic Canada and the United States. In addition more than 250,000 have seen the show in video format. Our presentation has earned many local, provincial and national awards including “Police Officer of the Year” and commendations from the President of Lions International.
